Traditional Food on the Island of Pag

Cheese

If you have been in Pag island and haven’t tried Pag cheese you really haven’t been in Pag! It has been considered as a family heritage and most of the locals have a number of sheeps and are producing their own cheese. Last couple of year this has been brought to a higher level of production and there are a lot of small OPG’s (family held farms) that are producing high-quality cheese – something you need to try. Because of the specific sheep diet the milk itself has a specific taste and when the cheese is produced from it it maintain the special aroma. Since we are talking about the sheeps the other specialty is lamb meat. The taste of local lamb is also specific for the same reason as milk and cheese. We can recommend that you visit (take the quad tour with us!) OPG Kuković, located on the main road that is connecting Pag bridge and city of Pag – there you can find all the local specialties. Close to the OPG Kuković, on the same main road towards Pag city you can stop and visit „Vina otoka Paga“ – run by a local winemaker Mr. Denis Rako and try local wines. We can recommend stronger red wine called „Fortica“ or sweeter Rose and for the local variety there is „Gegić“ wine.
